HOW TO IE TUNE YOUR VW 2.5L

IE ECU Stages for your VW 2.5L engine are available as Stage 1 stock engines or with an IE intake manifold upgrade for Stage 2. Read below to determine the best stage for your build!

In order to flash your vehicle, you will need an IE POWERlink Direct-port Flash Tool (sold separately) and a Windows 10+ powered laptop. Already own an IE POWERlink cable? Contact us to purchase upgrade credits, there is no fee to upgrade tunes, and you only pay the difference in tune cost.

PLEASE NOTE: Mobile phone app flashing support is unavailable for VW MK5 & MK6 generation 2.0T engines. These engine ECUs require a Windows 10 or newer laptop for tuning.

    IE VW 2.5L Stage 1 Tune
    The IE Stage 1 VW 2.5L tune delivers an aggressive power upgrade without having to install any hardware modifications. Perfect for customers looking for a jump in power without adding any additional hardware. In a matter of minutes, the vehicle will be much more enjoyable to drive with a boost in performance. This tune also deals with many factory tune annoyances on the 2.5L engine such as throttle hesitation, rev hang, and response that greatly adds to drivability feel. Designed for use with regular pump 91/93 octane.

    IE VW 2.5L Stage 2 Tune

    The IE Stage 2 VW 2.5L performance flash is designed for customers looking to maximize the performance of the factory engine with an IE Performance Intake Manifold (Sold Separately). IE Stage 2 software fine-tunes the ECU calibration to match the manifold flow characteristics. Stage 2 results deliver massive power gains across the powerband, fully realizing the 2.5L engine's potential without adding boost or high compression pistons. *IE Stage 2 Manifold Tune is only for vehicles with electric power steering.

      STAGE 2 INTAKE MANIFOLD FITMENT

      POWER STEERING
      This manifold will fit all VW 2.5L engines with the electric power steering system. Some later style engines use a hydraulic power steering pump, which sits right below the factory intake manifold. If your car is equipped with a hydraulic power steering pump, this manifold will not fit.

      AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION TUNE REQUIRED
      Automatic vehicles require a matching IE TCU Transmission tune to allow high revving of the automatic transmission. The stock automatic tune has internal transmission rev limit controllers that shift before the manifold and software can make the extra power gained through the upgrade. IE's Auto Transmission Tune removes this limiter allowing full advantage of the manifold & tune.

      Once a tune purchase is applied to your vehicle's ECU, the tune is permanently registered to the vehicle and non-transferable to other vehicles. Tune can be transferred to a second party in the event of vehicle transfer of ownership only.

      My car has a non-resonated Borla catback, R8 coilpacks, AFE intake, and Spulen air pump delete kit. I got sick of the rpm dip on gear changes, so I figured I'd get a flash tune too.

      I got the stage 1 tune (car has hydraulic steering, can we swap racks on these?), along with the transmission tune.

      Rpm dip on gear changes is gone, hard pulls from a stand-still have much more traction control intervention, and there's a noticeable gain in power from 3000-5000 rpm. Imagine the dyno sheet looking like a big hump pretty much.

      High rpm power still drops like a rock and I'm not sure how much the other mods affected the power gain, but I'm happy with it. Besides the cost difference of 93 octane compared to 87 lol

      Stage 1

      Gives slight but noticeable and fun power gains, and it has added some tasteful gurgles when engine braking which is amazing. Downloaded easily, but make sure you put the right gas in beforehand. Gas millage seems to be the same to me, but others disagree with their tune. Either way, it is very worth it, especially since stage 2 is only an extra $100 if I can figure out how to fit an upgraded IM in my hydraulic steering 2012 Passat.

      Stage one tune.

      Easy at home tune, noted better idle quality, better off

      Idle response, nice midrange hit, harder pull to a higher

      Redline and no more dreaded rev hang.
