The iE FDS Intercooler for MQB MK7, MK8, 8V and 8Y is powered by a massive 425 x 621 x 70 mm bar and fin core. That is 137% more core volume than stock, 74% lower intake air temps, and 9% less pressure drop. It is the single largest intercooler on the market for your GTI, Golf R, GLI, Golf, A3 or S3, and it bolts into the factory location.

Cooling charge air is all about efficiency. The iE Flow Distribution System uses precisely shaped internal fins to force air evenly across the entire core instead of letting it rush through the middle. Every square inch works. The result is a proven drop in intake air temperatures that no other unit on the market matches, and the biggest power gains possible from an intercooler.

Heat soak is what happens when the heat you make outruns the cooling you have. You feel it as fading power after a long pull or a few back-to-back runs. By massively increasing core size and putting the whole core to work with FDS, this intercooler keeps intake temps consistently lower than stock and competing units, pull after pull.

NO BOOST LEAKS

Nothing ruins a build like a boost leak. The inlet and outlet are CNC machined with a high-grip surface that locks the silicone in place. A flat stop edge keeps the hose from pushing on too far, and a beveled edge gives the clamp extra bite so it never slides back. Your boost hoses stay put for good.

The end tanks are cast from high quality aluminum with ultra-thick, reinforced mounting bosses. Fitting an intercooler this big leaves no room for error, so every mounting surface is precision CNC machined in house and hand verified for an exact fit.

After the end tanks are machined, the core and tanks are joined by hand with precision TIG welding. Every single intercooler then goes through a multi-point inspection and is pressure tested on our leak-down station before it ships. It arrives ready to install and built to last the life of the car.

Despite its size, the iE FDS intercooler is a true OEM replacement. Mounting points for the factory radiator and intercooler mounts are machined in, and stainless steel brackets are included for a stronger condenser mount. Everything around it stays untouched and it installs like a factory piece. 2022 and newer MK8 and 8Y cars may need very minor trimming of the plastic radiator shroud.

FAQs

Do I need a tune to run this intercooler?

No. It works on stock software and immediately fights heat soak. The biggest gains show up on tuned cars, where consistent intake temps let the ECU deliver full power every pull.

Does it fit in the factory location?

Yes. It bolts into the OEM location with no permanent modifications. Factory radiator and intercooler mounts are machined in, and stainless condenser brackets are included.

Will it work with my Adaptive Cruise Control?

Yes. The intercooler is fully compatible with ACC equipped cars.

Does it fit the MK8 GTI and Golf R?

MK7 GTI

Had one on my MK7 GTI and that had no issues, looking to get another IE intercooler now for my new Alltrack after the reliability of the other one in the AZ & FL heat.

Pretty sure this is the biggest ic you can get without tearing the car up for a front mount.

Works great as far as I can tell, car pulls hard all the way through a quarter mile with no signs of heatsoak definitely recommend

This beast is best for Golf R MK8...

Recently installed on 2024 VW Golf R Mk8 and the difference was apparently clear from the first drive. Coolant Temp now pinned at 194 no matter how hard or frequent you push accelerator. Obvious thought went into design and construction especially when compared to the OEM intercooler. This intercooler is a beast, significantly heavier but in all the right way. Recommend paring with charge pipes for added assurance. Also highly recommend you follow the provided installation instructions which when compared to other installation methods such as the Humble Mechanic videos will save you hours...the provided service position bolts (x2) were essential for providing the necessary access into tight places. Additionally teh MOD Gurus, specifically Devin, was available and able to provide assistance to such questions as how to remove ball pin of hood release of MK8.

In the souther climates this mod is not only a no brainer but also a necessity, especially being able to pick up on a recent summer sale...tremendous value. The results really speak for themselves. Could not be more pleased with this purchase and the products and support IE is providing on m,y build adventure.
